Sleep Quality Affected By Full Moon, Researchers Find

ATLANTA (CBS Atlanta) – A new study shows that a full moon could have negative effects on human sleep patterns.

According to the study, conducted by a team of researchers at the University of Basel in Switzerland, full moons not only affect how long people sleep, but also affect the depth of sleep and how long it takes to fall asleep.

Discover Magazine is reporting that levels of sleep-related hormones called melatonin are also affected by the lunar cycle.

Carefully managed laboratory conditions and a wide variety of participants representing different age groups and genders were reportedly implemented to prevent undue influence on the results recorded by the team.
