LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Scientists at NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory want everyone on Earth to say “Cheese!” Friday and pose for a picture.

Shortly before 2:30 p.m., NASA’s Cassini spacecraft will take a picture of Earth as it appears through the rings of Saturn, nearly 900 million miles away.

Nobody will actually be seen in the photograph as Earth will only appear as a small blue dot in the image.

It is expect to take about 15 minutes to capture.

The Griffith Observatory will host a “Saturn Wave” event on its front lawn Friday followed by a 3 p.m. “Cassini Discoveries” presentation.

Visitors will also be able to view Saturn through observatory telescopes after 8 p.m.
